GPLv3 update

The latest data indicates steady growth in deployed GPLv3 licenses and a significant jump in deployed LGPLv3 licenses – but don’t focus too much on this latter data point.

As of September 7, GPLv3 reached the 450 project level, which is a growth of 48 percent since August 6.

Not to be outdone, LGPLv3 hit the 56 project level, a significant 87 percent growth from August 24. This may not be a sustainable trend, so we will monitor it in forthcoming blog entries.

Lastly, our crackerjack “Spider Team” at Black Duck reports that the total number of deployed GPLv3 and LGPLv3 projects reached 506 – an 18 percent increase over the August 24 level.

Overall, we're seeing steady growth in GPLv3 and LGPLv3 that we will continue to monitor.
